Rowley House’s New Porte-Cochere Underway
The Porte-Cochere is finally underway!
A Porte-Cochere is a French word that describes an entrance or gateway to a building large enough to permit a coach to be driven through it. The purpose was to allow guests shelter while entering the building. These were very popular in mansions in the late 18th and 19th century.
In fact, the Rowley House used to have Port-Cochere, but it was removed years ago. Now we are rebuilding this structure to bring the property back to its original beauty and architecture. Stay tuned for more updates!
